OSI Hat Tournament 2010 - Review

Since this is Norway, there is no way around it- we have to start by talking weather. Or rather: rain. Well, more precisely: downpour.

But hey, this is Norway, right, so a bit of humidity should not keep anyone from playing Ultimate, and rightly, almost everyone met up on time to help setting up the field with the fewest (or at least most shallow) puddles and the least slopes. The original plan had been to play on two fields but this plan had been rained off as well.

Four teams were arranged (instead of five… yes, seems there are a few fair-weather players after all) and the first match started as soon as possible to get people warm. Everyone played with full energy and motivation and did not let down the spirits because of all the turnovers caused by the wet and slippery disk or the muddy ground. Oh, and did I mention the wind?

The stable throws of Erica, Richard, Kate, and Kristine (just to name a few) were remarkable under those conditions. Also great to watch; the sprints and jumps of Georg and Mark and Håkons defense.

The results of the matches were as follows:

  • 1 vs 2 – 3 : 10

  • 3 vs 4 – 2 : 9

  • 1 vs 3 – 6 : 2

  • 2 vs 4 – 8 : 1

  • 2 vs 3 – 11 : 0

  • 1 vs 4 – 3 : 5

Due to a clear advantage of team 2, team 2 was declared winner and the finals were replaced with a match of two pick-up teams which continued until the late afternoon (score unknown). The prize of the winner’s team was shared and finished up in the end of the day.

Sunday afternoon was spent in Frognerparken with some more hours of Ultimate- slightly better weather this time.

Special thanks to everyone who helped organizing this tournament; András, Frode, Håkon, Cyril, Kristine, and of course the driving force Jane. Thanks also to everyone for coming, we had a lot of fun with our first tournament – it certainly won’t be the last one!
